It reacts with fats through saponification reaction to produce soap.
White powder or flake solid. The melting point is 380°C, the boiling point is 1324°C, the relative density is 2.04g/cm3, the refractive index is n20/D1.421, and the vapor pressure is 1mmHg (719°C). Strong alkaline and corrosive. It is easy to absorb moisture in the air and deliquescence, and absorb carbon dioxide to form potassium carbonate.
Storage and transportation
Environmental conditions
It should be stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, with the temperature controlled below 30°C and the relative humidity below 80%. Keep away from fires, heat sources and direct sunlight.
Storage specifications
The packaging container must be tightly sealed to avoid direct contact with air to prevent the product from absorbing moisture, deliquescing or reacting with carbon dioxide to deteriorate. Products of different specifications and batches need to be stored in separate areas and stacked neatly, leaving enough passages for inspection and transportation. The stacking height should not exceed 2 meters.
Isolated storage
It is strictly prohibited to mix storage with flammable substances (such as ethanol, gasoline), acids (hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid), carbon dioxide gas sources, food chemicals, etc. to prevent safety accidents caused by violent chemical reactions.
Safety And Handling
Personal protection: Rubber acid and alkali resistant gloves, goggles, protective masks and anti-corrosion overalls must be worn during operation to avoid direct contact with skin and eyes; eating, drinking and smoking are strictly prohibited in the operating area.
Emergency treatment: If you accidentally come into contact with your skin, immediately rinse with plenty of running water for more than 15 minutes and seek medical treatment; if it splashes into your eyes, rinse quickly with saline and send to the hospital; if leakage occurs, you need to wear professional protective equipment, cover it with dry sand and collect it in a special container. It is strictly forbidden to rinse the leakage directly with water.
Disposal: Expired or invalid products and packaging materials contaminated with products must be handed over to units with hazardous waste treatment qualifications for unified disposal. It is strictly prohibited to discard or discharge into sewers at will.
