Copper sulfate, is a chemical compound with the chemical formula CuSO4. This salt exists as a range of compounds with different degrees of hydration. The anhydrous form is a pale green or off-white powder, while the pentahydrate (CuSO4·5H2O) is the most common salt and has a bright blue color. Copper sulfate dissolves exothermically in water to form the hydrate [Cu(H2O)6]2+, which has an octahedral molecular geometry and is paramagnetic.
Dark blue triclinic crystals or blue crystalline powder or granules. There is a metallic odor. Slowly weathering in dry air relative density 2.284. Above 150ºC, it loses water to form anhydrous copper sulfate, which easily absorbs water. It is easily soluble in water, and the aqueous solution is acidic, with a 0.1mol/L aqueous solution of 4.17 (15ºC). It is easily soluble in glycerol and dilute ethanol, and insoluble in pure ethanol.
